Edmonton Oilers's history of NHL
04-19-11

                                  Edmonton Oilers's history of NHL
The Oilers were founded on November 1, 1971, with the team playing its first season in 1972, as one of twelve founding franchises of the major professional World Hockey Association.
When they joined the NHL it didn't take long until they had one of the strongest teams in the history of hockey. The imformation is from la kings jersey

They won the Stanley Cup in 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and most people thought that was the end when Gretzky got traded in the fall of 1988. But many things can happen in the history of hockey and Mark Messier took over leadership and the Edmonton Oilers won one more championship in 1990. For their success in the 1980s, the Oilers team of this era has been honoured with "dynasty" status by the Hockey Hall of Fame. They had a group of players that dominated the league at that time. With great passing and defense, the Edmonton Oilers was almost unstoppable.
Wayne Gretzky led the club to four of the five Stanley Cup championships and he won seven straight scoring titles and eight straight Hart Memorial Trophies.
The Oilers do not have a mascot, making them one of only four NHL teams without one (the others are the New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, and Dallas Stars.)
